Alonso Menéndez created Montecristo in Havana in 1935, naming it for the novel read aloud to his rollers. After the revolution the family left Cuba, and the Montecristo sold in the United States is now made in La Romana, Dominican Republic by Altadis U.S.A. White, Platinum, Espada and the 1935 Anniversary carry the crossed swords with elegance and precision.
